Oligonucleotides and polynucleotides as biologically active compounds.

چکیده
Nucleic acids are involved in the most important processes occurring in living cells and possess an enormous potential for specific interactions with different biopolymers. Specificity of recognition of DNA and RNA species by complementary nucleic acids is unique in the world of biopolymers. A great number of the proteins involved in processes of replication, transcription, and translation are also capable of highly specific recognition of certain nucleotide sequences and specific structural motifs in folded nucleic acids. Therefore, nucleic acids have always attracted the attention of pharmacologists dreaming of highly specific therapeutics, i.e., magic bullets targeted to specific biopolymers. In recent years, the efforts of nucleic acid chemists have been focused on development of oligonucleotide-based biologically active compounds that

The effect of chain length on the phosphorolysis of oligonucleotides by polynucleotide phosphorylase.
The kinetics of phosphorolysis of compounds in the series (Ap),A (II = 2 to 8), p(Ap),A (n = 2 to 4), and (Up)I;cT, (II = 3 to 6) has been studied. K, and V,,, values were obtained for all compounds. K, decreases with increasing chain length and reaches a minimum value with compounds containing 5 phosphate residues. With the shorter compounds the dependence of K, on the nucleoside residues is a...
متن کاملSynthesis of Some Nitrogen Functional Derivatives of 5-substituted-6-azauracil as Biologically Active Compounds
3-Arylhydrazono-2,4-dioxo-4-phenylbutanoates have been prepared by the coupling of benzoylpyruvate with aryldiazonium chlorides. Reactions of the 3-arylhydrazono-2,4- dioxo-4-phenylbutanoates with 1-aminoguanidine, semicarbazide, and thiosemicarbazide gave 5-substituted 2-imino-6-azauracil (3a), 6-azauracil (3b), and 2-thio-6-azauracil (3c), respectively. The analytical data of these compounds ...
متن کاملTherapeutic Uses and Pharmacological Properties of Garlic, Shallot, and Their Biologically Active Compounds
Objective(s): Garlic (Allium sativum L. family Liliaceae) is well known in Iran and its leaves, flowers, and cloves have been used in traditional medicine for a long time. Research in recent decades has shown widespread pharmacological effects of A. sativum and its organosulfur compounds especially Allicin. Studies carried out on the chemical composition of the plant show that the ...
متن کاملSynthesis of some biologically active 2,4’-bipyridine-5-carbonitriles carrying the 4-Aminohenylthio moiety
A series of new 6-amino-4aryl-2’-[(4-Aminophenyl)thio]-2,4’-bipyridine-5-carbonitriles (3a-h) were synthesized from 4-aminothiophenol (1). The reaction of 4-aminothiophenol with 4-acetyl-2-chloropyridine yielded 1-{2-[(4-aminophenyl)thio]pyridin-4-yl}ethanone(2).Furthertreatment of 2 with aromatic aldehydes in the presence of alcoholic malanonitrile in ammonium acetate gave compounds (3a-h). T...
متن کاملSodium Bismuthate: An Efficient Catalyst for the One-pot Synthesis of Biologically Active Spiro[4H-pyran] Derivativesunder Solvent-free Conditions
An efficient sodium bismuthate (NaBiO3) synthesis of biologically active spiro[4H-pyran]derivatives has been accomplished via one-pot three-condensation of isatin/acenaphthequinone, malononitrile and different reagents including 1,3-dicrbonyl compounds, α-naphthol and 4-hydroxycumarin under solvent-free conditions. The notable advantages of the present procedure are: eco-friendly, environmental...
